Red Bull Big Tune Producer Battle and UAMA Fundraiser

Red Bull Music Academy generously donates to UAMA proceeds from door tickets to its Red Bull Big Tune event. Big Tune is a program created to showcase the musical talents of emerging as well as established producers. The producers battle head to head through rounds of single elimination competition. John Lennon Educational Tour Bus at the Digital Life Convention

UAMA students attend this special event that invites New York City teens to learn about careers from over thirty professionals working in the fields of fashion, industrial, multi-media and graphic design as well as architecture. Sony BMG Mentorship Program: Kick-Off Party

Cooper Hewitt National Design Museum: A City of Neighborhoods

Two UAMA teachers participate in a series of professional development workshops focusing on integrating civic engagement through design into the public school curriculum. Workshop participants explore Chinatown and attend a neighborhood history tour and discussion with staff from the Museum of Chinese in America. They create “sensory maps” of the neighborhood, and build models of innovative design solutions. One Loss Plus at BAM: School-time performance and Q&A with artist Daniel Bernard Roumain (DBR)

Daniel Bernard Roumain (DBR) is a Haitian-American composer, violinist, and bandleader who embraces his classical music roots with a multicolored spectrum of contemporary black popular music. Conceived and composed by DBR, One Loss Plus is an evening-length, multimedia work for 6-string violin, piano, electronics, and video. UAMA students attend a special daytime performance for school groups. In a Q&A session immediately following the show, DBR discusses his background, his artistic process, and the cultural influences behind his music. Tribeca Youth Screening Series: Black Orpheus

UAMA students attend a special student screening of the movie Black Orpheus. 1960 Academy Award Winner and winner of the Palme d’Or at the 1959 Cannes Film Festival, Marcel Camus’ Black Orpheus retells the Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice against the madness of Carnival in Rio de Janeiro. With its magnificent color photography and lively soundtrack, this film brought the infectious bossa nova beat to the United States. My Green New York Design Contest Gallery Viewing at City Hall

UAMA student Ye Yan is selected as a finalist in the My Green New York competition, and has her two entries displayed in a City Hall reception alongside work by students from around the city. UAMA was invited to take part in this special competition, organized by City Council members Simcha Felder and Gale A. Brewer, asking high school students to create designs promoting environmentally sustainable practices in New York City. Select designs are printed and distributed on canvas tote bags at commercial venues around town.

He takes on the role of Principal for the Day, through a program organized by Pencil "Public Education Needs Civil Involvement In Learning." Mr. Chan meets students throughout the day to learn about the UAMA student experience. El Museo del Barrio

Students in UAMA Spanish classes studied and discussed works of art that were on display at El Museo del Barrio's Bienal: The S Files, a survey of emerging Latino and Latin American artists working in the New York metropolitan area. After a tour, students created a piece of art work which captured the essence of the the S Files and Hispanic culture/ art.
