ALISON BREWIGuidance CounselorAs UAMA's Guidance Counselor, Ms. Brewi works hard to maintain a well- balanced and supportive environment for students, parents, and teachers alike, in order to ensure that those who attend UAMA are able to excel. She runs both a College Chat and a Teen Talk group at UAMA. Ms. Brewi's background in counseling includes many areas: Career, Mental Health, the College Application and Selection process, as well as Self Esteem, Body Image and Divorce. She has run many groups concerning these topics, including career readiness and Project Friendship (bullying, internet safety, and study skills) workshops at her former school. Ms. Brewi has also volunteered in the field of education; in college she tutored English at Theodore Roosevelt HS in the Bronx, as well as student-taught in an Elementary school in Albany. Ms. Brewi has worked overseas teaching English in Italy, and most recently, volunteering with the Trinity Mission Center in the Canóvanas and Loiza Valley areas of Puerto Rico. Ms. Brewi holds a BA in Psychology from Siena College and an MS in Counseling and Development, specializing in School Counseling from LIU. When she is not working, Ms Brewi loves traveling abroad, volunteering and spending time with family and friends. |

ALVIN J. CARTERCollege CounselorAlvin J. Carter grew up in New York City and attended Cardinal Spellman High School. He received his B.A. from Binghamton University in Political Science, Sociology, and African American Studies. He is currently pursing his M.A. at Columbia University, Teachers College in Higher and Postsecondary Education. Prior to joining UAMA, Alvin served as a Peer Counselor for the Educational Opportunity Program at Binghamton University and as a Career and College Counselor for the Broome County Urban League. Mr. Carter is responsible for assisting UAMA students in preparing for college admissions, scheduling standardized testing, writing applications, and choosing colleges; explaining the financial aid process; and being an aide in student’s transition from high school to college. Above all, Alvin is devoted to making a difference in the community by encouraging and inspiring youth who may not otherwise obtain positive reinforcement to excel to higher forms of education. |

GEORGE HANNAHTeacher SupportGeorge Hannah provides Teacher Support Services to students and teachers at UAMA. He focuses primarily on helping students develop and strengthen their foundation in the areas of Math and English. As a teacher, he places great emphasis on literacy and writing skills as important instruments of learning and self-expression. In his former life, Mr. Hannah was an actor performing for audiences both young and old throughout New York City and the Tri-State area. Most recently a New York City Teaching Fellow, Mr. Hannah has also received degrees and training from Columbia and Bucknell University, and is currently working on a second M.A. from Long Island University. |
