CORE VALUES

A democratic republic is dependent on an educated and informed community that can effectively express its concerns to further insightful discourse. The Urban Assembly School of Music and Art teaches our students how to think critically and express themselves rationally so they can be productive members of our society.

Through focusing on three specific artistic disciplines, musical, visual and literary, students will come to understand the power of envisioning, planning and creating something that was not in existence before they manifested it; something that was born through their own personal experiences and emotions. This act of creation will give students a model for understanding that their lives, like a work of art, need to be planned and executed. We don’t necessarily anticipate creating professional artists, but we do expect students to become compassionate, critical thinkers, who are life-long learners. Students will leave us knowing that they can successfully pursue study at the college level.

In order to create a culture of thinking/creativity through the arts, we integrate an understanding of artistic self-expression into all areas of a challenging curriculum. At the core of providing this experience for our students is the commitment that we have received from our varied arts partners and friends. Because of their dedication, we offer our students a one of a kind, highly professionalized view into the art world, exposing not only how it functions, but also giving students real work experience within it.

We believe that what we have crafted here is a unique experience that students find compelling and inspirational, but most importantly, is sending them down the road of high achievement, success and the desire to be life long learners.
